PTBA prepares humic acid pilot project
JAKARTA - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is preparing the pilot project to transform low-calorie coals into humic acid after launching a humic acid prototype at IUP Peranap, Riau, last week (12/12).
Arsal Ismail, President Director of PTBA, said that the research and development for the transformation of coal to humic acid is in line with the government’s initiatives regarding downstreaming in order to generate added value.
“The humic acid prototype will be developed into a pilot project,” Ismail said as quoted Wednesday (18/12).
According to Ismail, PTBA collaborates with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in studying and developing coal transformation to humic acid.
“The humic acid prototype is the initial phase of the development of high-value products. We are optimistic that this innovation will grant us benefits in terms of economy, whilst supporting sustainable economy,” Ismail said.
Ferian Anggara, Research Team Coordinator of UGM, explained that humic acid is an organic substance beneficial for land fertility by stabilising and improving land structure. (LK/ZH)
