JAKARTA – PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk (ICBP), the producer of Indomie, has clarified the decision by Australia to withdraw four Indomie products from the market in that country.

Gideon A. Putro, Corporate Secretary of Indofood CBP, stated that the production process of Indofood's instant noodles complies with regulations from Indonesia's National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) as well as international standards such as the Codex Standard for Instant Noodles.

The products have also been certified with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). “They are produced in facilities that comply with ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 standards,” he said in an official statement, Thursday (19/12).

Indofood revealed that the Indomie products reported to have been withdrawn in Australia were not officially exported by the company.

These products were parallel imports by non-official distributors. This was evident from the product packaging, which was in Indonesian, rather than English as required for official export products.

According to information from the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) website, the recalled products include Indomie Mi Goreng Rendang flavor (expiry dates: May 3, 2025, and December 23, 2024), Indomie Chicken Onion flavor (expiry dates: April 28, 2025, and April 1, 2025), Indomie Soto Mie flavor (expiry dates: April 27, 2025, and April 10, 2025), and Indomie Mi Goreng Aceh flavor (expiry dates: December 25, 2024, and April 3, 2025).

Gideon explained that these products were actually intended for the Indonesian market and complied with BPOM RI regulations, including allergen labeling requirements.

Indofood also confirmed that, as of now, there are no potential sanctions from Australian authorities directed at the company. All officially exported instant noodle products to Australia continue to be marketed and distributed normally.

"Official export products to Australia have the label 'Export Product' and include information in English, including allergen details as per Australian regulations,” he added.

Currently, all Indofood instant noodle products officially exported to Australia are still being marketed and distributed normally by the company’s appointed official distributor, with no recall or hold orders from Australian authorities. (DK/MT)
