JAKARTA – The inflation rate in December 2024 was reported at 1.57%, slowing down year-on-year (yoy) from December 2023 at 2.61%. However, month-to-month, the inflation increased in December 2024 from November 2024 at 1.55%.

In the press release quoted Thursday (2/1), Windhiarso Ponco Adi, Director of Price Statistics of Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS), explained that annual inflation occurred due to increases in most of expenditure categories’ indices.

For example, food, beverage, and tobacco products up 1.90%; followed by clothes and footwear of 1.16%; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel of 0.59%; tools, equipment, and routine maintenance for household of 1.04%; healthcare of 1.93%; recreation, sports, and culture of 1.17%; education of 1.94%; restaurant of 2.48%; as well as personal care and other services of 7.02%.

December 2024 inflation was actually the lowest within the past couple of years since 5.51% in December 2022. Even the realisation of December 2024 inflation (year-to-date/ytd) fell short compared to December 2023 of 5.71%.

In terms of provinces, annual inflation was the highest at Highland Papua of 5.36%, with Consumer Price Index (IHK) at 111.80, while the lowest rate was recorded in North Sulawesi of 0.44% with IHK of 107.28. (LK/ZH)
