Astra's car sales drop by 13.86% yoy in 2024
JAKARTA – PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) reported a total car sales of 482,964 units in the fiscal year (FY) 2024. Despite maintaining its dominant position in the Indonesian automotive market, this figure represents a 13.86% year-on-year (yoy) decrease compared to FY 2023, which recorded 560,717 units.
However, car sales in December 2024 showed a more positive trend with a 6.97% month-to-month (MoM) increase, reaching 42,158 units compared to 39,408 units in the previous month. This achievement reflects Astra's stable market share towards the end of the year.
"We would like to thank all Indonesians for their trust in Astra," said Boy Kelana Soebroto, Head of Corporate Communications at Astra International, in a statement on Monday (13/1).
According to data from Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO), brands under Astra's umbrella continue to dominate the market.
Brands like Toyota and Lexus were the market leaders, with a total of 291,566 units sold, though this was a significant drop from 339,292 units in 2023. Meanwhile, Daihatsu recorded sales of 162,032 units, down from 188,000 units the previous year.
Isuzu also saw a decline in sales, registering 26,379 units, down from 31,427 units in 2023. On the other hand, UD Trucks saw an increase in sales, reaching 1,960 units, up from 1,799 units the previous year.
Finally, Peugeot recorded the lowest sales, with only 27 units sold throughout 2024.
Despite the sluggish industry and ASII’s performance, Boy Kelana remains optimistic that in 2025, the industry will regain momentum thanks to various supporting factors that will maintain the purchasing power of the public.
"We hope that in 2025, there will be positive catalysts that can sustain the public’s purchasing power, which will drive national automotive sales growth," he concluded. (DK/ZH)
