JAKARTA – BYD, an electric car manufacturer based in China, will reportedly build its factory in Subang, West Java, with investment worth a total of USD 1 billion.

Eagle Zhao, President Director of BYD Indonesia, confirmed that in the long run, the production plant will be prepared for BYD’s export market. “We will continue our commitment to complete the factory construction by the end of 2025,” he said, as quoted by Reuters.

Said production plant is targeted to boost production capacity of 150 thousand units of electric cars per year.

With said investment, BYD will be able to import its electric cars to Indonesia without being charged with import duties. Said policy has been granted by the Indonesian government to support target achievement of electric car production in the domestic market of 600 thousand units by 2030.

Within its first year in Indonesia, or since 2024, BYD has managed to sell 15,429 units of electric cars. Furthermore, in the first eleven months (11M) of 2024, BYD is said to conquer 36% of electric car market share in Indonesia. (KR/ZH)
