WIFI and BNI build home broadband network worth IDR 978 billion
JAKARTA – PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) has officially partnered with PT Integrasi Jaringan Ekosistem (Weave), a subsidiary of PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI) or Surge, to support the development of affordable home broadband networks in Indonesia.
Through this partnership, BBNI is providing an investment loan of IDR 978 billion to Weave for the construction of high-speed internet infrastructure.
The agreement was signed on Friday, January 24, 2025, by BBNI's Acting General Manager of Enterprise Banking Division, Rifki Zimah, and WIFI’s President Director, Yune Marketatmo.
The investment loan aims to provide internet access speeds of up to 100 Mbps for 40 million households in urban, suburban, and rural areas on the island of Java. This facility is expected to enhance broadband penetration in Indonesia, which currently stands at 15%.
“This project is not only aligned with the national digitalization vision but also serves as a concrete example of the banking sector's role in promoting sustainable economic growth,” said Okki Rushartomo, Corporate Secretary of BNI, in a written statement on Thursday (30/1).
Yune Marketatmo, President Director of WIFI, also emphasized the importance of this project in creating a more inclusive digital future for the public.
“We are very proud to partner with BNI on this crucial project. Affordable broadband access is not just about technology but about unlocking new opportunities for millions of Indonesian families,” said Yune.
The project is set to begin in 2025 and is expected to provide a solution to Indonesia's digitalization challenges. With affordable service fees, this broadband network is anticipated to support the education sector, digital businesses, and other internet-based activities. (DK/KR/ZH)
