US withdraws from Paris Agreement, ESDM Minister responds
JAKARTA – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has expressed concerns regarding the development of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) following the US decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement.
Bahlil Lahadalia, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, stated that the Indonesian government faces a dilemma in advancing EBT initiatives. According to Bahlil, the development of renewable energy is now overshadowed by uncertainty.
"EBT was a commitment under the Paris Agreement. Now, the U.S. has started to withdraw from it," he said in Jakarta on Thursday (30/1).
Lahadalia added that while global financial institutions are willing to fund green energy projects in line with the Paris Agreement, the US, which initially spearheaded the agreement, has now pulled out.
As widely known, Donald J. Trump, following his inauguration as the 47th President of the U.S. last week (20/1), revoked an executive mandate on electric vehicle development. Trump also announced several controversial policies in the energy sector. (LK/KR/ZH)
