JAKARTA - The exchange rate of the US dollar (US) against the rupiah according to Google Finance suddenly fell by more than 50% to the level of IDR 8,170, from the previous position of IDR 16,335.25.

Head of BI's Communications Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, emphasised that this was not the correct rate. ‘The USD/IDR exchange rate level of IDR 8,100 as shown on Google is not the level it should be,’ said Mr Prakoso, as quoted by Detik, Saturday (1/2) today.

Prakoso admitted that BI is currently coordinating with Google Indonesia, so that the error can be corrected immediately.

According to BI data, the selling rate of the US dollar against the rupiah was at IDR 16,340.30 as of Friday (31/1) yesterday. Meanwhile, the US dollar buying rate was at IDR 16,177.70.

According to IDN Financials' monitoring, Google's data error also occurred in the euro to rupiah exchange rate.

Today, Google's version of the euro to rupiah exchange rate is at IDR 8,348.5. Meanwhile, at the close of trading on Friday, the euro to rupiah exchange rate was at IDR 16,908, according to Intercontinental Exchange data.

To date, Google has not issued a statement regarding the data anomaly. (KR/LM)
