US dollar to rupiah rate disappears from Google after plummeting to IDR 8,170
JAKARTA - Google is no longer displaying information on the US dollar (US) to rupiah exchange rate on its main page, following a data anomaly that caused the US dollar to fall to the level of IDR 8,170.
According to IDN Financials' monitoring, Google still displayed information on the US dollar to rupiah exchange rate on Saturday (1/2). However, on Sunday (2/2) today, the US dollar to rupiah exchange rate information no longer appears on the Google main page or on the Google Finance page.
Google's representative for Indonesia admitted that there was a technical problem that affected the drop in the US dollar to rupiah exchange rate last Saturday. It is known that the exchange rate data comes from a third party.
‘When we become aware of inaccuracies, we contact the data provider to correct the errors as quickly as possible,’ said the Google Representative, quoted by Kompas.
Previously, Bank Indonesia (BI) had also confirmed that the US dollar to rupiah exchange rate data displayed by Google was inaccurate. ‘The level of the US dollar to rupiah exchange rate at IDR 8,100 as shown on Google is not the level it should be,’ said Ramdan Denny Prakoso, Head of BI's Communication Department.
In addition to the US dollar, Google also displayed inaccurate data on the euro to rupiah exchange rate on Saturday. However, this error has been corrected and the euro to rupiah exchange rate is still displayed by Google. (KR/LM)
