December 2024 saw foreign tourist visits grow 8.72% yoy
JAKARTA – Foreign tourist (wisman) arrivals to Indonesia increased by 8.72% in December 2024 compared to December 2023. The rise in foreign tourist visits was recorded across all regions of origin, including ASEAN, Oceania, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and non-ASEAN Asia.
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) cited on Monday (3/2), the total number of foreign tourist visits in December 2024 reached 1.22 million, up from 1.09 million visits in November 2024. However, the growth in December 2024 was still lower than the 1.33 million foreign tourist visits recorded in October 2024.
The increase in foreign tourist arrivals came from all regions. Visitors from ASEAN totaled 497,922, up 1.17%; non-ASEAN Asia reached 324,678, surging 16.13%; Oceania recorded 176,473, up 11.97%; Europe with 169,982 visitors, up 16.72%; the Americas recorded 49,029, up 4.92%; the Middle East reached 16,093, increasing 8.45%; and Africa saw 10,195 visits, skyrocketing 28.19%.
Meanwhile, national tourist (wisnas), or locals travelling abroad, trips reached 810,440 in December 2024, up 8.05% from 750,060 trips in November 2024. This represents a 19.13% increase from December 2023, when there were 680,290 trips.
As for domestic tourist (wisnus), or locals making domestic trips, BPS recorded 101.08 million trips, an 11.63% increase from December 2023's 90.55 million. The number of domestic trips in December 2024 was higher than in November 2024, which stood at 80.61 million. (LK/ZH)
