JAKARTA – The Australian government prohibited Civil Servants from using Chinese Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, DeepSeek.
This ban means that no computers or mobile phones belonged to civil servants are allowed to access and utilise DeepSeek.
Tony Burke, Minister of Home Affairs of Australia, mentioned that DeepSeek may lead to unacceptable risks. “In order to protect national interest and security of Australia,” he said, as cited by several Australian local media a couple of days ago.
However, this ban does not apply to other Australians citizens not working as civil servants.
Prior to this, the Italian government even asked DeepSeek to restrict its service in Italy. Similarly, South Korea and Taiwan also banned DeepSeek access within government’s scope a couple of days ago.
As informed by IDNFinancials before, the latest AI-platform launched by DeepSeek, based in China, has garnered controversies in many countries. Its latest model, priced affordably, managed to cause brief instability in the US’ stock market. (KR/ZH)
