JAKARTA. The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Environment (MoE) has sealed the Lido Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project on Thursday (6/2) yesterday.

Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), said the sealing was carried out due to alleged violations in the project, which caused the siltation of Lake Lido.

‘Sediment from the cleared land was carried upstream to Lake Lido, causing sedimentation and siltation,’ Hanif said.

Meanwhile, Rizal Irawan, Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement (Gakkum) at the ministry, said that his office gave PT MNC Land Lido a deadline to correct the alleged violations.

‘If within 90 days there is no improvement according to the ministry's recommendations, the sanctions can be in the form of licence suspension to criminal sanctions,’ said Rizal.

For the record, the Lido SEZ project was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 31 March 2023. The project, which was developed on an area of 1,040 hectares, has an investment of IDR33.4 trillion and is targeted for completion in 2030.

The project is managed by a subsidiary of PT MNC Land Tbk (KPIG), through its subsidiary MNC Land Lido. KPIG is well known as Hary Tanoesoedibdjo's business wing in real estate and entertainment. (KR/LM)
