JAKARTA - PT Medco Cahaya Geothermal (MCG), a joint venture between PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) and Ormat Technologies, has commenced commercial operations of the Ijen Geothermal Power Plant.

In the first phase of its commercial operation, the Ijen geothermal power plant generated 35 MW of electricity. This is equivalent to 31.8% of the total planned capacity of 110 MW.

‘The successful construction of the Ijen geothermal power plant demonstrates Medco Power's ability to utilise Indonesia's geothermal resources using the latest technology,’ said Eka Satria, President Director of MPI, in an official statement.

Meanwhile, Roberto Lorato, PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MEDC), MPI's parent company, said the Ijen geothermal power plant emphasised Medco Group's dedication to providing sustainable energy solutions. ‘This project is also an important part of our roadmap to achieve Net Zero Emission for Scope 1 and 2 by 2050, and Scope 3 by 2060,’ Lorato said.
