JAKARTA – Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, responded to news that Elon Musk was preparing a consortium to acquire the non-profit organization controlling OpenAI.

This plan is exactly a month after Elon Musk made demands to OpenAI, so that it does not become a profit-oriented company. A number of sources say the value of the offer from the consortium formed by Elon Musk reached US$97.4 billion.

"No, thanks, we will actually buy Twitter for US$9.75 billion, if you want," said Sam Altman, in a post on his personal X/Twitter account.

OpenAI and Microsoft have not issued an official statement regarding Elon Musk's plans.

According to data compiled by IDN Financials, OpenAI's valuation reached US$157 billion in its latest funding last October 2024. This makes OpenAI a private company, with the largest valuation in the world.

For the record, Elon Musk also co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015. After OpenAI went live, Elon Musk then developed his own AI platform, namely xAI, in 2023. (KR/LM)
