BI survey: Consumers optimistic about economic resilience
JAKARTA – Bank Indonesia’s Consumer Survey (SKBI) indicates public confidence of strengthening economic conditions. The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) in January 2025 stood at 127.2 points, slightly down from 127.7 points in December 2024. Despite the decline, the CCI remains well above the optimism threshold of 100 points.
In a press release on Tuesday (11/2), Ramdan Denny Prakoso, Executive Director of Communication Department of BI, stated that consumer optimism regarding the economic outlook is supported by the Consumer Expectation Index (IEK) and the Current Economic Conditions Index (IKE), which recorded 140.8 and 113.5 points, respectively.
Consumer optimism in January 2025 was also evident across all spending categories. The highest CCI was recorded among respondents with expenditure of IDR 4.1 million–IDR 5 million (131.8 points), followed by expenditure above IDR 5 million (131 points), and IDR 2.1 million–IDR 3 million (126.6 points).
In line with this, consumer perceptions of economic conditions in January 2025 remained strong, although the IKE was at 113.5 points, lower than the 116 points recorded in December 2024. The IKE comprises the Current Income Index, Employment Availability Index, and Durable Goods Purchase Index, which recorded 122.6 points, 107.7 points, and 110.3 points, respectively. (LK/ZH)
