JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has asked the State Bank Association (Himbara) and private banks to support funding for the 3 million houses programme, which was initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

Erick Thohir, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), admitted that currently Himbara has been actively supporting funding for the property sector. For example, through PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BBTN), which controls 80% of the subsidised housing funding market.

"As this is massive, 3 million [houses], we also expect the role of private banks to support the government," said Thohir, in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (11/2).

Meanwhile, Perry Warjiyo, Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), said that his party has been providing concrete support for the 3 million houses programme. For example, by providing liquidity incentives to banks that lend to the housing sector.

"We have provided IDR 23.19 trillion. Based on the results of this discussion, we will gradually increase it to IDR 80 trillion to support this housing programme," said Warjiyo.

In addition, said Warjiyo, there are still a number of other incentives being prepared to support the 3 million house programme. "We will convey them gradually," he added. (KR/LM)
