KAI receives IDR 2 trillion of capital from the state, what for?

JAKARTA – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, the state-owned enterprise (BUMN) in the railway transportation sector, has received a capital injection of IDR 2 trillion.
This additional capital comes from the Government of Indonesia, as the controlling shareholder of KAI.
Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji, Executive Vice President of Corporate Secretary at KAI, stated that the funds will be used to support the availability of Electric Railcar (KRL) facilities.
“It is intended to meet the needs of urban railway passenger transportation,” said Raden, in a disclosure of information.
According to data from IDNFinancials.com, KAI also received a capital injection from the Government of Indonesia at the beginning of 2023 amounting to IDR 3.2 trillion. This funding was channelled to PT Pilar Sinergi BUMN Indonesia, a state-owned consortium involved in the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project.
In 2022, KAI also received a capital injection of IDR 6.9 trillion from the Government of Indonesia. This was provided in connection with the issuance of new shares by KAI. (KR/ZH)
