WIFI partners with Orex Sai to develop 5G FWA based on Open RAN

JAKARTA – PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI) or Surge, has partnered with Orex Sai Inc to introduce a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) 5G solution based on Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN).
The multi-year commercial agreement between Surge and Orex Sai was signed in early March 2025 and is scheduled to begin in 2026.
Shannedy Ong, Director of WIFI, stated that this partnership marks a significant step in providing high-quality internet access at a more affordable price.
"Through this program, the public will be able to enjoy internet services starting from IDR 100,000 with speeds of up to 100 Mbps," Shannedy Ong said on Friday (7/3).
In this project, WIFI will be responsible for providing low-cost internet services and the necessary infrastructure for the deployment of 5G FWA technology.
Meanwhile, Orex Sai will provide Open RAN-based technology solutions, designed to ensure efficiency, affordability, and improved network quality.
In the second half of 2025, the project will enter the field trial phase, with the implementation of several initial sites to test the functionality and operational aspects of the system.
By the end of 2025, the pre-commercialisation phase will commence, with hundreds of sites starting operations to enhance user experience and optimise network performance.
Full implementation will begin in early 2026, with the goal of building over 20,000 sites by 2030 and beyond.
Hiroshi Kobayashi, President & CEO of Orex Sai, emphasised that the 5G FWA solution based on Open RAN will not only improve network efficiency and affordability but also contribute to the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy.
"We are ready to work with WIFI to bring reliable connectivity to millions of people, especially in areas that still lack adequate internet services," said Hiroshi. (DK/ZH)
