More than US$3 trillion gone from capital markets, what happened?

JAKARTA. The market capitalisation value of the S&P 500 has fallen by more than US$3 trillion since its highest level on 19 February 2025, according to FactSet data reported by Forbes. During this period, the S&P index corrected by 6%.
Meanwhile, in the last week of trading, the S&P index fell 3.1%. This decline was also followed by the performance of the Down Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) which weakened 2.4%, and the Nasdaq Composite corrected 3.5%.
A number of parties have accused the performance of the United States (US) capital market of slumping, due to President Donald Trump's policies that invite various uncertainties for various sectors. Especially the tariff policy that is heating up.
Trump denies the claim, only made by countries and other parties who do not like US policies. ‘Because we will take back what has been taken from us for a long time,’ Trump said.
Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase Economists, Bruce Kasman and Joseph Lupton, consider Trump's recent policies to be a negative catalyst for the market. ‘Trump's policies seem to be increasingly leaning in a less business-friendly direction,’ they said in a report on Friday (7/3). (KR/LM)
