BRIS: Zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf transactions to rise by 60%

JAKARTA – In the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr, zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf (ZISWAF) transactions via the digital wallet application BYOND, owned by PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BRIS), are expected to soar by up to 60%.
Saut Parulian Saragih, SEVP of Digital Banking at BRIS, explained that BRIS has partnered with 25 national zakat organisations (LAZNAS) to offer a monthly auto debit service for customers who wish to fulfil their ZISWAF obligations routinely.
According to him, the BYOND application had 3.5 million users as of March 7, 2025. Saut is optimistic that the app can reach 10 million users by the end of 2025, in line with the target. This growth is driven by features that simplify financial, social, and spiritual transactions.
The QRIS, ZISWAF, and Investment features are the most popular among users. As of January 2025, the volume of ZISWAF transactions reached 900,000, with a value exceeding IDR 14 billion.
Overall, ZISWAF transactions across all BRIS e-channels totalled 9.5 million transactions, with a total value of IDR 120 billion. BRIS recorded that, as of December 2024, 98.03% of transactions had shifted to e-channels, amounting to 813 million transactions.
“With various innovations, BYOND continues to strive to be the leading digital solution, integrating financial, social, and spiritual transaction needs for the community,” Saut said in an official statement, quoted Thursday (13/3). (EF/ZH)
