JAKARTA - The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) targets the number of Islamic stock investors to reach 200 thousand by 2025, an increase of 2% from the end of 2024 which has reached 196 thousand investors.

Head of the IDX"s Sharia Capital Market Division, Irwan Abdalloh, said 90% of sharia stock investors come from the 17-35 age group.

"We always have a target number of new investors from OJK. But our market is even higher, hoping that in 2025 it can be close to 200 thousand," said Abdalloh, at the Nyantri Saham Bareng Kabar Bursa event, at the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, today.

However, Abdalloh said, currently only around 19% of the total Islamic stock investors are actually active in the capital market. Abdalloh said this is "a challenge for the IDX to increase participation and understanding of Islamic investment in Indonesia."

The owner of holding and investment company PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya Tbk (SRTG), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, responded to the challenge on the same occasion. This seasoned investor said the prospects for Islamic stocks in Indonesia are quite large.

According to Sandiaga, investing in Islamic stocks can be the right choice for long-term investors. Moreover, Sandiaga said, sharia stocks in the consumption and energy sectors still have great potential.

"This can be the main choice for those who want to invest with halal and sustainable principles," said Sandiaga.

According to IDNFinancials.com data, currently there are 439 issuers included in the Indonesia Sharia Stock Index (ISSI). A total of 19 of them are also included as constituents of LQ45, an index containing 45 constituents of the most liquid stocks. (KR/LM)
