JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto has vowed to address the smuggling of gold and other mining commodities that harm the state’s finances. This was conveyed during the inauguration of PT Freeport Indonesia’s precious metal smelter in Gresik, East Java, on Monday (17/3).
The President stated that the government is determined to manage the country’s mining wealth properly. "There are still irregularities, where illegal mining and gold smuggling occur without proper processes, and this is detrimental to the state and the people. We will take action," he said, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
Prabowo emphasised that the government will investigate and eradicate all forms of irregularities and smuggling of mining commodities entering and leaving Indonesia, which threaten domestic industries. (LK/ZH)
