Eruption hampers hundreds of flights at Bali International Airport

JAKARTA - Hundreds of flights to and from Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport have been delayed due to the volcanic eruption of Mount Lewotobi Male in NTT, which is about 830 kilometres away.
The Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), raised the activity status of Mount Lewotobi Male to level IV (alert) on Thursday (20/3) night.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' PVMBG, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted twice on Friday (21/3) yesterday.
‘There are a total of 16 international flights cancelled by airlines due to flight safety and security considerations,’ said General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, on Friday.
According to the world's largest flight tracking platform, Flightaware.com, there were 168 flights from the airport that were delayed on Friday.
The details consist of 123 domestic flights and 45 international flights. (KR/LM)
