JAKARTA – United States (US) President Donald Trump has issued an executive order to his cabinet to increase coal-fired electricity production.

“I have authorised my administration to immediately produce energy with coal—beautiful and clean coal,” Trump stated on his personal social media account.

The White House confirmed that Trump had signed an executive order aimed at ramping up US mineral production.

"President Trump is pushing for domestic mineral production to reduce the US's dependence on foreign resources," the White House said in its official statement.

Currently, 15% of US power plants still use coal as a fuel source. However, in 2000, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) recorded that 50% of power plants were coal-fired.

The Newcastle coal price for March 2025 fell by 0.10% to USD 96.90 per tonne on Monday (24/3). Additionally, coal prices have declined by 5.23% since the beginning of the month. (KR/ZH)
