ENRG to build carbon capture and storage with a capacity of 16 TFC

JAKARTA – PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk (ENRG) is set to build a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at the Arun Field in Aceh.
Syailendra S. Bakrie, President Director of ENRG, stated that the Arun Field is one of the most promising CCS development locations in Southeast Asia, with a capacity of up to 16 trillion cubic feet (TFC).
“With a production history since 1978 and peak output reaching 2,500 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), this location has the infrastructure and geological conditions highly supportive of large-scale decarbonisation technology development,” he said in a public disclosure on Wednesday (26/3).
He added that the plan to build a CCS facility reflects the company's commitment to supporting the net zero emission target by 2060, while also strengthening the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The construction of this facility will be carried out in collaboration with ENRG's subsidiary, PT Pema Global Energi (PGE).
The company will form an internal technical team to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study and work with independent consultants on the project. “The feasibility study is targeted to be completed by 2026 and will adhere to all applicable regulations,” he stated.
He also mentioned that the company will establish a carbon management division to handle the development of CCS projects across all of ENRG’s operational areas. This division will create new opportunities through carbon infrastructure and offset service (CIOS) initiatives. (LK/ZH)
