JAKARTA - The United States (US) government has begun levying a universal tariff of 10% on all imported products. A number of products such as crude oil, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductors are exempted.

The universal levy is effective from Saturday (5/4), at 12.01 AM EDT (Eastern Daylight Time).

Furthermore, US Customs will levy reciprocal tariffs, imposed by President Donald Trump on 57 major US trading partners, including Indonesia, on Wednesday 9 April 2025, at 12.01 AM EDT.

‘This is the biggest action the US Government has ever taken on global trade,’ said Kelly Ann Shaw, a former adviser to President Trump.

However, US Customs is giving a 51-day grace period for cargo that has been loaded and is in transit, before 12.01 AM EDT, Saturday (6/4).

As previously reported by IDNFinancials.com, President Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on 57 trading partners on Wednesday (2/4). The announcement sent global markets reeling, with the majority of indices falling by more than 5% on two consecutive days. (KR/LM)
