JAKARTA - The Indonesian government will gather entrepreneurs from various industries, to formulate strategic policies to respond to reciprocal tariffs implemented by the United States (US).

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the government is still looking at the potential impact of the US tariff policy on Indonesia, especially on export-oriented labour-intensive industries such as textiles and footwear.

‘Because this is still dynamic and still needs a working group to continue working, the president asked us to write a letter before 9 April 2025,’ said Airlangga, in his statement, Sunday (6/4) today.

Airlangga added that the government has scheduled a meeting with business associations to gather input regarding the tariff policy announced by President Donald Trump on Wednesday (2/4). The meeting is scheduled for Monday (7/4).

‘Tomorrow, all industries will be invited to get input related to their exports and also related to things that we need to protect, especially the labour-intensive sector,’ Airlangga explained.

As previously reported by IDNFinancials.com, the US imposed a 10% universal tariff on all imported products, as well as additional reciprocal tariffs for 57 trading partner countries including Indonesia. (KR/LM)
