JAKARTA - The Indonesian Plastic Recycling Association (ADUP) encourages the restrictions on the usage of plastic bags to be reviewed, because of the impact that happens to the economic chain of some people, especially scavengers.
Indra Novriansyah, the spokesperson of ADUPI said that each district and city government issued a policy prohibiting the usage of plastic waste, but the decision was made with less careful consideration. "We want to convey that actually plastic recycling can be carried out if the government wants to work together and get positive input from the plastic recycling association," he said.
According to him, the restrictions policy made on plastic bags will also give some impacts to many people's lives, especially for plastic waste scavengers, who are already in the poverty line, and also does not give much help to overcome unemployment and decrease crime rate.
In addition, his party would like to socialise more about the terms to separate organic and non-organic waste, because literally, some waste management already have separate bin provided in several places, though, the waste is still thrown all together during the process of transportation to the Final Disposal Site (TPA).
