JAKARTA - BYD car sales in February 2025 grew the fastest, exceeding the growth of European and Japanese car sales.

According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), wholesale sales of this Chinese car grew 25.6% to 1,399 units in February 2025. Meanwhile, its retail sales grew 48.1% to 1,488 units.

Nevertheless, BYD's market share in Indonesia is only 1.3% for wholesale and retail sales. This is still very far compared to Toyota, the owner of the largest market share, with a share of 32.5% at the wholesale level and 32% retail.

Toyota's car sales in Indonesia itself only grew 3.7% to 31,589 units in February 2025 for the wholesale segment, and at the retail level grew 0.4% to 30,107 units.

Meanwhile, sales of Mercedes-Benz cars, which leads the market share of 4-wheeled vehicles from Europe in Indonesia, fell 13.3% to 357 units at the wholesale level and at the retail level fell 15.4% to 330 units.

Overall, wholesale car sales for the period of February 2025 rose 0.3% to 95,377 units. Meanwhile, retail sales fell 3.9% to 87,384 units. (KR/LM)
